Systems Engineer - Application Administrator for Network Visibility

The Network Visibility Systems Engineer will maintain, monitor and manage products that support network taps, packet brokers and packet capture appliances.  This position will develop and maintain engineering standards for each type of product to simplify configuration and assure quality.  The Systems Engineer will be an applications administrator and respond to Help Desk Trouble Tickets, as well as maintaining a trouble ticket log describing routine and emergency tasks requiring investigation, analysis, correction, modification, enhancement or repair to the network authentication systems.  Additionally, the Network Visibility Systems Engineer will be responsible for cooperating with personnel from other departments (e.g., Data Networks, Voice Networks, Contact Center, Information Protection) in the implementation of cross-departmental initiatives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform day to day engineer and operations tasks on Gigamon GigaVUE, VM & FM; Apcon IntellaFlex and Riverbed AppResponse appliances to include: installation, upgrades, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Participate in engineering team meetings and project planning sessions as necessary
  • Provide updates, presentations and recommendations on the state of assigned duties
  • Data analysis skills and competence in MS Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently on multiple projects
  • Minimal travel: 2-3 weeks per year, potentially international

Formal Education & Certification
  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems required
  • Or equivalent work experience

Knowledge & Experience
  • 2 or more years with network tap and packet broker integration, migrations and deployments (Gigamon preferred)
  • 2 or more years with Linux, packet capture appliances and packet analysis (Riverbed AppResponse, NetShark or Wireshark preferred)
  • Basic scripting experience with Python, Perl or other similar language
  • Knowledge of Wide and Local Area Networks, including maintaining and troubleshooting network hardware (Cisco desired)
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols and applications including RADIUS, SNMP, SYSLOG, TACACS, DNS, DHCP, IPSec, NAT, ACLs
  • Experience in customer service and/or operations
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication abilities
