Voice Operations Monitoring Engineer

Location: Philadelphia County or REMOTE

Duration: 9+ months 

This role is part of a team responsible for the continuous operation and maintenance of the network monitoring and alerting systems infrastructure for voice technologies. The person in this position will be responsible for driving the continual improvement of network infrastructure monitoring and alerting capabilities.  This individual will maintain, monitor and manage Network Management Systems (NMS) that support the Global Voice over IP Infrastructure, Service Partners, Wide and Local Area Networks, including, but not limited to, network hardware that supports VoIP.

This position will operationally maintain engineering standards for each type of monitoring system to simplify configuration and assure quality.  The Systems Operations Engineer will be an applications administrator and respond to Help Desk Trouble Tickets, as well as maintaining a trouble ticket log describing routine and emergency tasks requiring investigation, analysis, correction, modification, enhancement or repair to the network management systems. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support multiple Network Monitoring Systems (NMS), products and solutions, to include implementation, migrations, documentation and decommissioning
  • Optimize network monitoring solutions to increase availability and security 
  • Assist with development of monitoring requirements to identity and resolve performance issues
  • Provide updates, presentations and recommendations on the state of assigned duties
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as Network and Voice Engineering/Operations, Contact Center Services, etc.
  • Conform to and perform internal audit and compliance requirements
  • Periodic 24x7 off-hours/on-call support

Formal Education & Certification
  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems required or equivalent work experience
  • Redhat Engineer Certification a plus

Knowledge & Experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with Linux systems administration required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Windows required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing Monitoring Systems such as VMWare, Prognosis, Oracle Enterprise Manager, CA Spectrum and SevOne
  • Strong knowledge supporting commercial and open-source products on Linux and Windows
  • Intermediate knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as Perl, Python, Selenium, Ansible and Splunk
  • Experience with using Postgres, MySQL, MS-SQL, Oracle or another similar DBMS
  • Experience with Syslog-NG desired
  • Basic knowledge of Call Manager, Unity, Wide and Local Area Networks
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols and applications including SNMP, SYSLOG, NETFLOW, RADIUS, TACACS, DNS, DHCP, IPSec, NAT, ACLs
  • Experience in customer service and/or operations
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication abilities
